Snowman Calibration Run 2019

As the runners of the Snowman Calibration Run 2019 completed their 305-km race from Gasa to Bumthang, which is mostly above treeline, five runners thanked their organisations for allowing them to participate in the race.

Royal Bhutan Army soldier, Sangay Wangchuk, who backed the first position, Kinley Gyeltshen, who stood fourth, and Duptho Wangchuk, who stood fifth, said they were grateful to the organisation and their commandants for the opportunity.

The administrative assistant of Royal Audit Authority (RAA), Singey Dorji, said everyone in his office, including the auditor general and deputy auditor generals, supported him to participate in the race. “We practised for more than two months and any other office might allow.”

A private employee, Karma Zamba Wang, who works for a private company, Shingkhar Pvt. Ltd. said his managing director gave him fund to buy shoes and energy bars when he said he got selected for the run.

The Bhutan Helicopter Services contributed Nu 3 million (M) to the Snowman Secretariat, Druk Holding and Investments contributed Nu 1M, and Tourism Council of Bhutan committed Nu 3M.

The board members of the Snowman Secretariat said they expected all segments of the society, including the private sector to come together and contribute, as they want to conduct a high-standard run next year.

The world’s toughest ultra-marathon will be conducted on October 13 next year, coinciding with the Royal Wedding Anniversary.
